What attracted you to a career in accounting?

My family and I run our own business, so accountancy has always played a part in my life. I came to Benson Accountants for work experience in the Summer of 2022 and even after just four weeks it strengthened the fact that I’ve always enjoyed working with numbers.

What's your favourite part of your apprenticeship so far? 

I really enjoy drafting the accounts and the sense of responsibility that comes with it.  Also, I love that my days are varied; I’m learning something new every day.

What was your background before joining Benson Accountants?

I was in Sixth Form studying French, Biology and Maths at A Level, but after my short stint of work experience with Benson’s I decided that I didn’t want to go to university anymore, and that learning within a workplace environment was more suited to me.

What advice would you give to someone considering an accounting apprenticeship?

To not worry about not having the necessary qualifications.  Everything was brand new to me when I started my apprenticeship, but it’s a real team effort and there is always someone available to help me solve problems or learn how to look at things from a different perspective.

What are your career goals within accounting? 

To become an AAT qualified accountant (Level 4) and then I will hopefully go on to become Chartered.

What is a fun fact about you that people might not know? 

We have a family business in Clay Pigeon Shooting which I run with my Dad every other Sunday.
