As part of our journey to learn more about our Accounts Apprentices, we caught up to find out what drew Eddy to do his apprenticeship with Benson Accountants.
1. What attracted you to a career in accounting?
After finishing school at 16, I knew I wanted to pursue a career that involved numbers, as Maths was one of my favourite subjects. A friend of mine was already on the apprenticeship program at Benson Accountants and really enjoying it. Since Bensons is my local accounting firm, it felt like the perfect opportunity to gain experience while learning on the job.
2. What's your favorite part of your apprenticeship so far?
The team at Bensons has been incredibly supportive, creating a great working environment where I feel encouraged to learn and grow. I enjoy taking on new tasks, speaking with clients, and building strong professional relationships to ensure we provide the best possible service.
3. What was your background before joining Benson Accountants?
I joined Bensons straight after school, where I particularly excelled in PE. I’ve played rugby since I was six and currently play for Wigton Colts.
4. What advice would you give to someone considering an accounting apprenticeship?
If you’re someone who prefers hands-on learning while earning a wage, an apprenticeship is a fantastic option. It does require commitment to both study and work, but the experience you gain along the way is invaluable.
5. What are your career goals within accounting?
Once I complete my apprenticeship, I plan to progress to my Level 4 qualification and ultimately work towards becoming a Chartered Accountant.
6. What is a fun fact about you that people might not know?
I have represented my county in rugby, hockey, and squash, and I’ve also competed in javelin for Allerdale!
